Nolan Smith shares his unique story of getting the game passed down from his father, becoming a star in his own way and now embracing the life of a coach.
Nolan Smith was literally born into basketball. The son of Derek Smith, who won a championship in Louisville, a 9-year pro, who tragically passed. For Nolan that tragedy linked him to the game and motivated him to be great. He went on to Duke, was a standout player and won a national championship.
Over the past 9 nine years, Nolan has turned the page to coaching. When injuries cut his playing career short, he returned to Duke to learn how to apply his knowledge and experience as a coach. With time in Durham and Louisville, and then most recently in Memphis as an assistant, he Nolan has showing how he's found his next calling. And now as the newly hired head coach of Tennessee State, Coach Smith is ready to lead a program of his own.
